The Fight Over FCC Deregulation
of Ownership Rules
Presented Aliza Dichter
The featured speaker will be Aliza Dichter, Director of Programs for the
Center for International Media Action.
The subject will be: "The People Versus the FCC: Why the fight
over ownership
rules got so big, what's next and what it means for our community."
Aliza Dichter, an educator and advocate who has been working on public-interest
media policy, will lead a discussion about the ways communities are challenging
the dominance of the media giants and demanding that regulation serve
the public interest. Topics will include media concentration, community
TV and radio, wireless spectrum rights and how to hold media accountable
for their news coverage and service to the community.
Aliza is the Co-founder and Director of Programs for the Center for International
Media Action (CIMA), a new not-for-profit organization providing strategic
services to media advocacy, reform and education groups.
Admission to the October 8th meeting is free for members of Hudson Valley
Technology and Commerce $5 for non-members. Admission is waived for those
who become new HVT&C members ($25/yr. for individuals, $50 for
small businesses, $100 for large businesses) . To make reservations for
