Magazine Publishing in the Digital Age

The next monthly meeting of the Hudson Valley Technology and Commerce will be held on Wednesday, April 13th, from 6-7:30 PM at New World Home Cooking in Saugerties, N.Y. It will feature Jason Stern, president and founder of Luminary Publishing and publisher of Chronogram, Upstate House, Metro House and Healthy Living magazines.

"Luminary Publishing was founded at the advent of the desktop publishing revolution," he says, "and has survived and grown by, among other things, making the best use of digital technology. Without a cheap desktop computer and printer, bootstrapping a monthly magazine would have been impossible." In addition to speaking about the role of technology in his business, Jason will share his company's story and the principles and practices he employs.

Prior to careening into a career in publishing Jason worked as a professional rock climber, health food salesman, carpenter, writer and photographer, and spent several years living in a spiritual community instead of attending college.

There will be opportunity for networking, questions and answers before and after the presentation, and light snacks will be served. Admission is free for members of Hudson Valley Technology and Commerce ; $5 for non-members. Admission is waived for those who become new HVT&C members ($25/yr. for individuals, $50 for small businesses) at this meeting, or who bring a person who joins at this meeting.

The meeting is sponsored by Hudson Valley Technology and
Commerce, a not-for- profit organization dedicated to improving technology infrastructure and service in the Hudson Valley.
